GIRL POWER MOVIE
*”Girl Power” is the groundbreaking documentary that highlights the stories of female graffiti writers from fifteen cities around the globe—ranging from Prague to Moscow, Cape Town, Sydney, Biel, Madrid, Berlin, Toulouse, Barcelona, and New York. In a graffiti world dominated by men, where the illegal aspect is often deemed “not for girls,” this film celebrates the women who defy these stereotypes. As the graffiti scene becomes more inclusive, with female-focused shows, magazines, and websites, “Girl Power” shines a light on the empowering journey of these artists who have carved their own space in this rebellious subculture.
The documentary goes beyond the surface of the graffiti world to delve into the personal journey of Czech graffiti writer Sany. In 2009, Sany embarked on a mission to document the emancipation of women in graffiti and give them a platform to express themselves. After seven years of dedication and perseverance, “Girl Power” is the result of her tireless pursuit. The film follows Sany’s life with graffiti, exploring her evolving motivations, the values that shape her art, and the personal sacrifices she makes along the way. Through intimate interviews with her family—who are unaware of her “second life” as a graffiti artist—the film reveals Sany’s struggles and determination to create the first documentary focusing on women in the world of graffiti. Even in moments of doubt and exhaustion, Sany’s unwavering commitment to her dream of telling these untold stories shines through.”
