WORKSHOP FOR NURSING HOME

Ústí nad Labem/Czechia/2017

In Ústí nad Labem, a unique space was born where art, community, and the courage of self-expression intertwined. DESKA, an innovative art project set in a former public toilet, transformed into a vibrant gallery, a center of creativity, and a meeting place for people of all generations. As part of this project, I had the honor of organizing a graffiti workshop for the residents of a local senior care home. The aim was to encourage women, whose stories and experiences had often been overlooked, to seize the colors and express themselves. Our gathering was marked by mutual support and self-confidence. Bohunka, Anna, Lída, and Věra – each of them brought unique energy and determination to the workshop. Even when it sometimes seemed that society was turning away from seniors, all it took was for them to pick up a spray can, and they immediately became the center of attention. Their creative process aroused interest and inspired not only passers-by but also families, friends, and casual visitors to DESKA. The day’s greatest warrior was Mrs. Bohunka, who, at 96 years old, overcame even the smallest challenges with incredible courage. It became clear to all of us that the true value of the workshop did not lie in the final result, but in the process of creation itself, in the sharing of emotions, and in strengthening social recognition.
